Prince Harry has spoken out after a tense week in the U.K., addressing the media about the emotional toll of a two-day appeal hearing regarding the British government’s decision to revoke his security while in the country.
The Duke of Sussex expressed feeling “exhausted and overwhelmed” by the ordeal and described the situation as “difficult to swallow.”
Harry believes the security removal was an attempt to lure him and his wife, Duchess Meghan, back to the U.K. after their move to California in 2020. He told People magazine that the entire experience confirmed his worst fears, leaving him saddened.
The appeal hearing, held at London’s Royal Courts of Justice, drew significant attention.
On April 9, Harry’s lawyer warned that the prince’s life was at risk due to the changes in his protection, a serious concern given Harry’s high-profile status.
His lawyer emphasized the personal safety aspect of the case, highlighting the danger Harry faced during his visit.
The case adds to a series of legal battles Harry is involved in, including lawsuits in both the U.S. and the U.K. against various media organizations.
His longstanding grievances with the press stem from the tragic passing of his mother, Princess Diana, in a 1997 paparazzi chase.
Additionally, Harry’s legal team has criticized the decision to remove his security, pointing to ongoing threats from groups like Al Qaeda and a recent paparazzi incident involving Harry and Meghan in New York.
