TV presenter Ruth Langsford has opened up about the changes in her relationship with her son Jack, whom she shares with her ex-husband, broadcaster Eamonn Holmes.
Speaking on the *There I’ve Said It* podcast, Ruth shared personal reflections about how their bond has shifted over time, especially as Jack transitioned into adulthood.
Now 23, Jack was once Ruth’s little shadow, always by her side and entertained by her playful antics. “When they’re little, they love being around you.

I used to sing silly songs, get lyrics wrong on purpose, and he found it hilarious,” she recalled. However, she noted that things changed as Jack got older.
A specific moment in a supermarket made her realize the shift—when she jokingly called out a made-up band name, Jack responded with embarrassment rather than laughter.
“It suddenly hits you—they don’t find you funny anymore, especially if you mention anything remotely awkward,” she said.
Ruth also candidly spoke about the emotional impact of Jack leaving home for university. She described the first week as incredibly painful, saying it felt like “part of my heart had been ripped out.”
She remembered walking into his room, smelling his pillow, and breaking down in tears.

Despite their divorce in 2023 after 14 years of marriage, Ruth and Eamonn have continued to co-parent Jack privately, occasionally sharing glimpses of their parenting journey.
Ruth’s honesty offers a relatable perspective on how parent-child relationships naturally evolve over time.
