Meghan Markle reportedly made unusually high demands for Vogue covers in 2022—requests that even Beyoncé hasn’t made, sources say.
According to insiders, Markle sought simultaneous cover appearances on both UK and US Vogue, wanting control over the photographer, writer, final edits, photos, and cover lines, aiming for a “global issue.”

This put former British Vogue editor Edward Enninful in a difficult position, especially since the September 2022 UK cover was already booked with supermodel Linda Evangelista.
Markle also arranged a Zoom call with US Vogue editor Anna Wintour to pitch the idea, but Wintour declined, as the magazine had already selected Serena Williams for its cover.

Despite Markle’s efforts, including asking Wintour to reconsider, the request was politely declined.
Some reports claim Markle never actually asked for a Vogue cover, with Vogue having approached her multiple times post-wedding. In fact, she guest-edited British Vogue’s 2019 “Forces for Change” issue instead of appearing on the cover.

Markle did secure a digital cover for New York magazine’s The Cut in September 2022, promoting her “Archetypes” podcast, and was slated for a Variety cover which was delayed.

While some insiders suggest tension between Markle and Enninful over unmet expectations, others say their relationship remains friendly, with exchanges of birthday wishes and flowers continuing.
