Miley Cyrus’ Raspy Voice Has a Secret Medical Cause and She’s Keeping It That Way…

Miley Cyrus has finally opened up about the real reason behind her famously raspy voice — a vocal cord condition called Reinke’s edema.

In a recent interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, the 32-year-old singer explained that her distinctive tone stems from swelling in her vocal cords, a condition often linked to smoking and vocal strain.

Though she admits that partying and long nights didn’t help, she clarified that her voice has always sounded this way due to her unique anatomy.

She also revealed she has a large polyp on her vocal cords, which contributes to the deep, textured tone fans recognize instantly. Despite the challenges, including how hard it is to perform live, Cyrus calls the condition a “blessing.”

She has no intention of undergoing surgery to correct it, as there’s a real risk she could lose the voice that defines her.

While the condition affects her ability to tour and perform, Miley refuses to lip-synch, staying committed to delivering live vocals—even with the strain it causes.

Though she rarely speaks about it, she chose to share this personal detail as she promotes her upcoming visual album, Something Beautiful, set to release on May 30.
