Tina Knowles has revealed a personal and emotional journey. In a candid interview on “CBS Mornings” with Gayle King, the mother of Beyoncé and Solange Knowles shared that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in her left breast.
The 71-year-old fashion designer described how the diagnosis shocked her, admitting she felt disbelief despite always trying to maintain her health.
The diagnosis came after Tina missed her routine mammogram due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When she eventually got screened, doctors discovered two tumors—one benign and the other cancerous.
Tina explained that her cancer was caught early, at Stage 1, though she was unaware that Stage 0 existed, which would have been the earliest stage had she gone for her mammogram on time.
Tina underwent a lumpectomy to remove the tumor, and throughout the process, her family, including Beyoncé and Solange, were by her side. Her family’s support was overwhelming, with her loved ones joking around to ease her nerves and even singing a special song during the surgery.
In her memoir, “Matriarch,” Tina revealed that Beyoncé took the news in stride, staying positive and focused, while Solange assured her mother, “We are going to take care of this.”
Tina shared that the experience brought her closer to her loved ones, and she decided to publicly share her journey to inspire other women to prioritize their health and get tested. After surgery, she’s cancer-free, feeling healthier and blessed for the support she received.
