Did Donald Trump Really Follow His Own Advice? You Won’t Believe What He Said About Negotiating!

Long before he was in the Oval Office, Donald Trump was the boss in a very different boardroom — the one on The Apprentice.

Now streaming on Amazon Prime, the first season of the 2004 reality show offers a glimpse into Trump’s early views on business and negotiation, decades before those same skills were tested on the global stage.

In The Apprentice, Trump played the no-nonsense tycoon guiding 16 ambitious contestants through high-stakes business tasks. With his signature phrase “You’re fired,” he became a pop culture icon, doling out sharp advice about negotiation and success.

“Negotiation is a very delicate art,” he said in one episode. “Sometimes you have to be tough, sometimes sweet as pie. It’s in the genes — a negotiator is born.”

He often pointed to his own financial comeback as proof of his strategy: “I was billions in debt, but I fought back. I used my brain and negotiating skills. Now my company’s stronger than ever.”

Among his core lessons? Honor your deals. “Once you shake hands, that’s it,” he told viewers. “Reputation is everything.” In another episode, he emphasized understanding your opponent: “If you don’t, you’ll lose big.”

Loyalty was another recurring theme. “Hire talented people who are also loyal,” Trump advised. “And if someone betrays you once, don’t give them a second chance.”

Now as a two-time president, the world watches to see if Trump still lives by the same rules he once taught on TV.
