At 62, Demi Moore has found her own definition of wellness.
The actress, who recently stunned in The Substance, graces the cover of PEOPLE’s “World’s Most Beautiful” issue.
Reflecting on her past, Moore shares how, for years, she pushed her body through strict diets and intense workouts for her iconic roles in ’90s hits like Ghost, Indecent Proposal, Striptease, and G.I. Jane.
She admits, “I was harsh and had a much more antagonistic relationship with my body… I was really just punishing myself.”
After completing G.I. Jane, Moore recalls asking to return to her natural size after her three pregnancies and years of dieting and exercise. She says, “I didn’t know what my natural size was anymore, so I just let go.”
That moment of letting go led to her accepting her body as it was, even though it wasn’t what she had hoped for. “I stopped trying to control my food and understood what it meant to accept my body,” she adds.
Now, Moore, who says she’s around 40 pounds lighter than during G.I. Jane, listens to her body’s needs with less fear, no longer trying to control it. “It’s a much more aligned relationship,” she says.
Starting each day with meditation and journaling, Moore enjoys nutrient-dense foods and is mostly plant-based, though she does eat eggs. She also emphasizes the importance of sleep, admitting, “I’m not perfect. I still drink Red Bull — but just one.”
When it comes to aging, Moore embraces it with acceptance.
“I’ve come to appreciate all that my body has been through,” she says, marveling at how her body grew three children and remains healthy. While she admits to moments of self-doubt, she adds, “That doesn’t define my value or who I am.”
