Bill Maher is calling out Larry David for a satirical essay that seemed to mock Maher’s meeting with President Donald Trump.
On April 24, during an interview with Piers Morgan, Maher expressed his frustration with David’s piece in *The New York Times*, which used a fictional account of a dinner with Htler in 1939 to draw parallels to Maher’s own dinner with Trump.
Maher, who met Trump in March and later recounted the experience on his talk show, “Real Time with Bill Maher,” pointed out that David’s essay went too far by invoking Htler.
“You’ve lost the argument the moment you play the ‘Htler’ card,” Maher said, adding, “It’s insulting to 6 million dead Jews.” He argued that Htler should be regarded as the ultimate evil, and his name should be reserved for that context.
While Maher remains critical of Trump, he said the president surprised him with his gracious demeanor during their meeting.
David, who never directly referenced Maher or Trump, wrote in a way that Maher felt echoed his own sentiments, leading to the criticism.
Maher also revealed that he hasn’t spoken to David since the essay was published but expressed a willingness to move past the issue. “We might be friends again,” he said, adding, “If I can talk to Trump, I can talk to Larry David, too.”
