Gary Oldman recently admitted to being “unprofessional” and “destructive” during the filming of the 1995 movie *The Scarlet Letter*, where he starred alongside Demi Moore.
Reflecting on his past struggles with alcohol, the Oscar-winning actor revealed that his drinking affected his behavior on set, particularly during a key scene he filmed while tipsy.
Oldman, now 67, described how he drank heavily during lunch breaks, which led to a moment of deep regret. After one such incident, he apologized to Moore, expecting anger.
Instead, Moore responded, “I don’t hate you. It’s okay. I’m just disappointed.” Her calm but honest reply left a lasting impact on Oldman.
At the time, Oldman was in a dark place, both personally and professionally. His issues with alcohol culminated in a DUI arrest and a subsequent rehab stay in 1994.
Since then, he’s maintained sobriety for 28 years, crediting Alcoholics Anonymous for helping him turn his life around.
Despite the past, Oldman recently reconnected with Moore and praised her recent performance in *The Substance*. Speaking at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards, he called her “very special” and expressed joy over her success.
Moore, now 62, enjoyed a highly acclaimed awards season for her role as Elisabeth Sparkle, earning a Golden Globe, SAG Award, and a BAFTA nomination.
Oldman’s candid reflection not only sheds light on his personal growth but also highlights Moore’s grace and resilience as a co-star and performer.
