Prince George marked a key milestone in his young royal life with a surprise appearance at a Buckingham Palace tea party, held to honor the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
The 11-year-old joined his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, for the commemorative event hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla. Dressed smartly in a navy suit and blue tie, George was seen speaking with veterans alongside his father, Prince William.
After watching the military parade and flypast, George attended the tea party, where around 50 Second World War veterans and survivors were honored. His participation was praised as a significant step in preparing him for future royal duties.
Royal Editor Emily Nash noted it was “a big moment” that George would likely remember for years, highlighting his parents’ commitment to educating their children about historical events and the importance of remembrance.
George showed keen interest while conversing with Alfred, 101, a D-Day veteran who swam ashore under heavy shellfire.
The young prince asked thoughtful questions like, “What was it like when you were coming in?” and was told by Alfred, “It’s very important you are here today.” He also spoke with Dougie Hyde, 99, a former Merchant Navy sailor, asking if he’d ever seen a U-boat.
The veterans praised George’s politeness and curiosity, with one calling him “impressive.” This rare public appearance is seen as one of his most meaningful yet, offering a glimpse into the future King’s growing understanding of service, duty, and history.
