Kamala Harris made a surprising appearance at the 2025 Met Gala, marking her debut at the iconic fashion event.
Embracing the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the former Vice President wore a classic black-and-white asymmetrical gown. While she attended the high-profile event, Harris opted not to walk the blue carpet.
Her attendance comes just months after her defeat in the 2024 presidential election, where she ran as the Democratic nominee.
This Met Gala appearance follows her April 30 speech at the Emerge 20th Anniversary Gala in San Francisco, where she openly criticized President Donald Trump’s administration during his second term.
Harris condemned what she described as a betrayal of American ideals and encouraged unity during difficult times.
“In the face of crisis, the instinct must be to come together,” Harris said, warning that challenges may worsen before they improve.
She emphasized that the country belongs to its people—not just those in power—and urged Americans not to lose hope or ownership of their democracy.
The Met Gala, officially called the Costume Institute Benefit, raises funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, which houses more than 33,000 fashion pieces. The 2024 event reportedly raised around \$26 million.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump remains banned from the Met Gala. Vogue editor-in-chief and gala chair Anna Wintour confirmed in 2017 that Trump would no longer be invited to the exclusive event.
