Michelle Obama and George W. Bush may come from opposite sides of the political spectrum, but according to Jenna Bush Hager, they actually share something much deeper — the same love language: humor.

On a recent episode of Today With Jenna & Friends, Jenna reflected on Michelle Obama’s appearance on Amy Poehler’s podcast and noted how the former First Lady isn’t afraid to laugh at herself.

It reminded her of her own father, former President George W. Bush, who also enjoys being the butt of the joke—especially if he’s in a good mood. “I just realized why my dad and Mrs. Obama are friends,” she said. “They have the same love language.”

Laughter, Jenna explained, is a strong thread in the Bush family. Her mother, Laura Bush, often laughs at George’s jokes, and their home has always been filled with humor. The same goes for Jenna’s own family life with her husband and children.

Michelle and George’s public friendship has made headlines for years. Whether sharing a hug at the National Museum of African American History and Culture or quietly passing mints during a funeral, their bond feels genuine and warm.
