Norwich, Kansas, which has 450 residents, is likely to shrink even further.
The Headrick sextuplets, whose 2002 birth garnered widespread media attention, graduated from Norwich High School and will be departing for their respective colleges in the fall.
It makes sense that Sondra and Eldon Headrick, their parents, are feeling a variety of emotions.
Sondra, 51, told TODAY Parents, “I can’t even express in words how pleased we are of them. “But you know, we’re a little depressed at the same time.”
The fact that the 18-year-olds are pursuing their education in Kansas, according to Sondra, gives her peace of mind.
Sean will specialize in cybersecurity at Cowley College, while Ethan plans to study technical networking at Wichita State University. The most extroverted of the boys, Grant, is taking a year off.
He will keep working while deciding what he wants to do; next, Sondra said.
The class valedictorian, Jaycie, will pursue a degree in primary education at Pratt Community College. Her sisters Melissa and Danielle are studying graphic design and animation, respectively, at Hutchinson Community College.
Melissa and Danielle won’t be housemates, but Sondra explained that they wanted to be on the same floor so they could check on one another. The girls are quite close. They will converse into the wee hours of the morning.
The first several days will be “an awakening,” according to Sondra, for Ethan, Sean, Grant, Jaycie, Melissa, and Danielle.
They had been a couple forever, she said.
